There is no doubt that Computer Security/Cyber Security or whatever you would like to call it has taken centre stage. If you follow security related social media feeds you will no doubt be familiar with the daily bombardment of breaking cyber security stories. If you read only a fraction of the feeds you will know that cyber criminals are using increasingly sophisticated techniques to steal information that can be monetized on the Dark Web.

Information technology has permeated our everyday lives and for the average person, the number of attack vectors and vulnerabilities are numerous.  In fact if the average person was aware of all the cyber crime vulnerabilities they were open to and actively tried to limit them, they would probably end up spending most of their time indoors with the curtains pulled unplugged from the world.

Issues that the Information Security community deal with on a daily basis such as data breaches, zero day threats, cryptography, targeted attacks and user awareness are not going to go away soon. But have you ever wondered what the security issues were when the world was a simpler place, when the word ‘Hacker’ was only a recent entry into the vocabulary of everyday tech talk?

Watch this video for a quick trip back to 1984 when surprisingly, things were not that different from what they are today.
